If I was to sit down and write an academic paper on the rise of cli fi, to be titled THE RISE OF CLI FI AS A LITERARY GENRE ETC, I would first set out an abstract that looks something like this. Then I would spend a year or so researching and writing the paper, present it at an international literature conference in Norway, turn it into a published paper in Norwegian first and later in English and then make a book out of it. So: without further ado:------------------------------- ''THE RISE OF CLI FI AS A LITERARY GENRE AND WAKE UP CALL IN POST-MODERN TIMES''---------------------- ABSTACT: for a proposed paper by Asten Foggewald, PHD, University of Norway------------------- The newly emerging literary genre of “cli-fi” has become controversial in some corners and much-debated in others. The media has been having a field day with it. To sort things out, I propose writing an academic study on cli fi with a few questions to be posed and then answered; -----------------------------ONE: where and when did the cli fi term originate, who coined it and why; -----------------------------TWO: What is the difference betweem cli fi and sci fi, since cli fi takes places in the past, the present or the future, and is usually decribing dystopian, apocalyptic and moral issues, while sci fi likes to explore the possibilities of science and its relationship with humankind, on Earth or in Outer Space or in Alternative Universes. -------------------------THREE: I intend to argue my case that the situation of cli-fi shows that it has gone beyond the mere reach of genre fiction, and has now touched upon more serious and philosophical issues such as what will be the fate of the human species come the Climapocalypse and will there even be a future 5000 years from now, if the current rate of c02 emissions continues unabated?----------------------PUBLISH DATE: 2020
